Successfully Navigating the Carousel of Dreams

I watch entrepreneurs a lot. Successful people possess boundless enthusiasm, zest for life and open-mindedness. People want to follow leaders with positive energy and wisdom. Their attitudes are contagious. They can lighten up heavy moments in any crowd. Strong leaders are secure enough to lift other people up by telling them that they can achieve anything and everything.

Now, fledgling entrepreneurs remind me of kids on a carousel. They keep reaching out for the prized brass ring. They are willing to risk. If they don’t grab hold of the prize, they will go around continually until they do. With each round, they develop better skill sets. They never lose their enthusiasm.

On the other hand, pessimism can easily develop. The kid on the carousel may suddenly overreact and start whining.

Usually, in life, it takes multiple negative events to trigger an overreaction. Suddenly, our ability to see the whole picture disappears when we focus on the negative. Unfortunately, negativity just breeds more negativity. It affects self-esteem and distorts self-perception. The story you tell yourself is extremely powerful.

As we go around the carousel, it’s important to remember that emotional resilience is crucial. Ultimately, hardship develops strong character.

Here are more things that can help us in our quest:

  1. Spend more time with loved ones. They have unconditional love and faith in you.
  2. Spend more time developing your passions. Sharpen your skills or learn something new.
  3. Take care of yourself. Go to the spa or use DIY treatments at home.
  4. Engage in physical activity. Get to the gym. If you lack motivation, invite a friend to go with you.
  5. Think like a kid. Treat yourself to a movie, ice cream or table game. Nurture your inner child. Go with the flow and let yourself loose.
  6. Always remind yourself that there will be another circle and new opportunity to take hold of the prize.
