A Brief Overview Of Motocycle Fashion

I love the edgy Cara Delevingne modeling biker boots in a recent Saint Laurent’s advertisement. That, and my wonderful memories of working in the motorcycle industry have inspired me to write this brief post on biker fashion.

A rebellious biker accessory adds so much to a minimalistic and classic style for a modern look. And I’ve mentioned in my previous posts that I have an endless love for my leather motorcycle jackets! I think these, like a classic white shirt and little black dress, are must-have staples of every contemporary woman’s wardrobe.
Here are some interesting facts on biker style:

In 1913, two brothers, the sons of a Russian immigrant, pursued the American dream and started their own manufacturing company in the Lower East Side of Manhattan. Irving Schott designed the first leather motorcycle jacket in 1928. He named it the Perfecto after his favorite cigar. At that time, its retail price was $5.50 at a Long Island Harley-Davidson distributor.

Perfecto became extremely popular after the movie “The Wild Ones” (1953) played. It was associated with a powerful sex symbol— the “bad boy” image of Marlon Brando.
